As part of our service, we are able to offer a Rolex watch upgrade – giving our customers old and new the opportunity to trade in their purchases for something of an even higher quality.

The Timeless Style and Elegance of Rolex Watches

Founded in 1905 by German watchmaker, Hans Wilsdorf and British businessman, Alfred Davis, their Hatton Garden company, ‘Wilsdorf & Davis' was founded upon a shared principle of providing ‘high-quality timepieces at affordable prices'.

The company was selling the ‘Rolex' brand in 1908 (the name, a stroke of inspiration from the mind of Wilsdorf, whilst sat on the upper deck of a London bus) and in 1914, the watchmaker made the prediction that [before long] ‘pocket watches will almost completely disappear and that wristwatches will replace them'. That same year, Rolex became the first wristwatch brand to be awarded a Class ‘A' certification from the prestigious Kew Observatory, normally given to marine chronometers. Rolex's growth had been so rapid, that they had 40 employees on their payroll by the time the year 1914 had ended.

Twelve years later, the Rolex Oyster was the first waterproof and dustproof watch ever invented. In order to test its capabilities, it was worn by a swimmer who navigated across the English Channel. After the ten-hour swim, the watch was said to be ‘in perfect working order.

The prestige of Rolex watches was established forever in 1931, with the innovation of ‘the Rolex Perpetual'. The world's first wristwatch with an automatic mechanical movement, it would wind itself – becoming a horological game-changer.

Anyone who was anyone proceeded to snap up a Rolex and by the 1960's, their longevity became a common factor in why people would buy one. Many Rolex watches are still passed down family lines today, such is their prestige and hard-wearing qualities.

So, buying a Rolex is about more than just the elegant style and the functionality it shows – it's buying a piece of history, a trusted brand that has served people worldwide for over 120 years.

Why Upgrade Your Rolex?

If there is anything we should take from the history of Rolex, it's that they have been at the centre of numerous watchmaking innovations. Despite being known for their classic styles, Rolex are still constantly pushing the boundaries when it comes to creating wristwatches.

This means that the functionalities of your existing watch model may have been upgraded over time. The Rolex Submariner, for example, has gone through countless updates and tweaks since its introduction 60 years ago. Many owners of previous models choose to trade theirs in, in order to maximise their investments – with added functionality, the latest models will nearly always be worth more than their predecessors.

In fact, with Rolex being such a prestigious brand, every single type or model makes for a great investment. Even if you simply fancy a change of watch, upgrading for another type of Rolex will allow you the opportunity to try out something new.
