So why not take the time to look around for your ideal ring?

Why Choose Pre-Owned Diamond Stone Rings?

Second-hand jewellery has many advantages over new items. For example, with new jewellery, you don’t get the same amount of history that you do with older pieces. Jewellery crafted in past decades serves as a reflection of the culture and style of past societies. As an example, pieces designed during the time of the Second World War acted as an offset to the serious and sombre atmosphere of wartime society. The jewellery in this era was filled with colour, often being designed in a somewhat playful manner.

Another great reason to buy pre-owned diamond stone rings is that they tend to hold their value better than new pieces – they have been tried and tested and thus, stood the test of time. Like any new item, the purchase price will likely decrease as soon as it leaves the shop – this isn’t the case with an older piece. This is why many people invest in diamond jewellery; their money will go further and essentially be protected for years to come. Not something that can be said of other investment avenues.

How To Identify A High-Quality Jewellery Piece

When searching for an item of jewellery, you should make note of the key factors for identifying a true high-quality piece. With regards to 2/3/5 diamond rings, there are two things you need to consider; the quality of the diamonds present in the ring and the metal which the diamond ring is made from (which is usually either gold or platinum).

Finding The Right Diamond

Whenever you purchase any diamond jewellery, always remember ‘the 4 C’s’ – Clarity, Carat, Colour and Cut, as it’s these factors that determine a diamond’s value.

  • Clarity. The clarity of pre-owned diamond stone rings (sometimes referred to as ‘the purity’ of a diamond) indicates how the stone has performed under examination for flaws. The clarity rating includes flaws located on both the inside and outside of the diamond. Flaws that are on the inside are said to be ‘inclusions’ whereas those on the outside are ‘blemishes’ – obviously the fewer flaws, the more clear it is.
  • Carat. The weight of the diamond is its carat – the higher it is, the more it weighs; the more the diamond weighs, the more valuable it is.
  • Colour. Colourless diamonds are graded on a scale that runs through four ratings: D, H, N, Z. As most diamonds have yellow or brown tinges, colourless diamonds are the most sought-after, and expensive. On the scale, ‘D’ is considered colourless, whereas ‘Z’ is the most colour-packed
  • Cut. Diamonds are cut in a wide variety of shapes and styles, dependent on the setting or the request of the buyer. The Round Brilliant Cut is the most popular style, appearing in many jewellery pieces, with Princess Cut and Emerald Cuts not being far behind.

Identifying Value In Precious Metals

That was the diamond, but what about the precious metals that hold them? Here’s how to identify them:

  • Gold. The precious metal gold has been enjoyed and treasured by people for thousands of years. In addition to being a luxurious metal, it is also ideal for those concerned about skin allergies. This is because 18-carat gold jewellery is so pure that it does not cause allergic skin reactions. Gold is available in a wide range of different purities, which is measured in 24ths, with each 24th being a carat. On this scale, 18-carat gold jewellery is 75% pure gold. However, you can mix gold with other metals to create different colours, for example white gold or rose gold which could be made from 14-carat gold and 10 parts alloy.
  • Platinum. This naturally white precious metal was very popular during the Edwardian period, however it has seen use throughout many different eras, trends, and styles; making it a popular choice for many jewellery admirers. You can identify the purity level of a piece of platinum jewellery through its hallmark. In the United Kingdom, letters are used to indicate how pure the pre-owned diamond stone rings are. If the letters ‘PT’, ‘Plat’, or ‘Platinum’ are present, this means that the ring is made from 95% platinum.
